WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 5, 2022) -- Despite a three-run seventh inning, the King's College baseball team fell, 7-3, in non-conference play against the University of Scranton on Tuesday afternoon. The Monarchs fall to 7-12 overall, while the Royals improve to 17-3-1.
After a quick first inning, Scranton (17-3-1) strung together six runs, all unearned, in the top of the second to take a daunting 6-0 lead over King's (7-12). The Royals tacked on another run in the top of the fourth behind two hits.
Two quick defensive innings by both teams set up the Monarchs to plate three runs on four hits in the bottom of the seventh. Sophomore
Gregory Ahlstrom got the bats going with a one-out single to right field. Two more singles from first year

Matt Bound loaded the bases to set up an RBI walk from senior
Andrew Steidle. A one-out double to left field by sophomore
Brennen Schneider plated two more as the Monarchs closed within a 7-3 deficit of the Royals.
There was just one hit recorded over the final two innings of play as the Monarchs fell, 7-3, in the non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon at Lipo Field.
Schneider and Bound each recorded two hits in the loss, while Schneider drove in a team-high two runs. Steidle recorded the loss on the mound as the Monarchs starter, throwing 1.1 innings and allowing four unearned runs with two strikeouts.
Kevin Johnson led the Royals as he went 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs. Josh Lydon was the pitcher of record for Scranton as he threw a stellar 5.0 innings, allowing just one hit and no runs.
The Monarchs will be back in action at Lipo Field on Thursday afternoon as they host Clarks Summit University at 4:00 p.m. in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
