WILLIAMSPORT, PA - (SEPTEMBER 12, 2022) -- The King's College women's volleyball team will come home happy as they improve to 3-2 overall, 0-1 in conference thanks to a 3-1 win over the Penn College Wildcats.
The Monarchs who were playing with a thin roster found themselves in an early hole as the Wildcats went on a 14-6 run. After dropping the first set 14-25, the Monarchs came roaring out of the gate in the second set with an early 10-2 run, courtesy of three kills by first year
Joy Kindall who would go on to have a big night. The Monarchs got a needed 25-17 win in the second set.
The teams kept things even throughout the third set before the Monarchs pulled away on a 9-3 run to take a 2-sets-1 lead as they looked to close things out in the fourth set.
With the Monarchs ahead by a mere 13-12, junior
Morgan Bryant served up an ace which kick started an 11-3 run. Despite a late push by the opposition the team was able to hold off the Wildcats for the win, thanks to kills from seven different Monarch in the final set.
Kindall led the Monarchs attack with 18 kills on 44 attempts at the end of the night and a .341 hitting percentage. Sophomore
Keely Hoban led the team in assists for the fourth time this season with 20. It was another stellar night for the team defensively as the team registered 92 digs averaging, 23 a set including 20 by first year
Devan Moses and reigning MAC Freedom Defensive Player of the Week
Morgan Williams. Bryant also contributed on defense with 16 digs.
Kindall added to her big game with six of the eight Monarchs blocks. The other two were by
Kathy Shepherd and
Bella Salvia. The team also served up eight aces, four from transfer
Adriana Conforti, two by
Bella Salvia and one by Williams.
Coryn Oswald led the Wildcats with 13 kills while Brooke Simmons had 29 digs. With this loss Penn College falls to 1-5 overall.
The Monarchs will come home for the first time this season on Thursday as they open up a six game home stand against the Marywood University Pacers. The action will begin at 6 pm. This game will be followed by another one on Friday night against Centenary University (New Jersey) Cyclones at 6 pm.
