Davies Scores, Men's Soccer Battles Hard but Falls to Juniata 2-1

HUNTINGDON, PA (September 17, 2022) --- The King's College men's soccer team battled hard, but ultimately fell on the road on Saturday afternoon at Juniata College 2-1.

With the loss King's falls to 3-4 on the season, while Juniata improves to 5-2.

It was a fast start for the Eagles who fired off the first shot of the game in the fourth minute, before Emmet Young's shot beat Jake Forst to give Juniata a 1-0 lead in the eighth minute. Juniata doubled their lead before the end of the half on a goal by Ian Edwards in the 38th minute, making the score 2-0.

King's came out of the break with energy as Austin Miller tallied an early shot, just 26 seconds into the half. The squads alternated shots through the middle part of the frame, before Michael Davies got the Monarchs on the board, finishing off the pass from Dylan Domchek, cutting the lead in half, 2-1 in the 79th minute. King's pushed for an equalizer over the final ten minutes but their efforts were stifled by Juniata, as the Eagles hung on for the 2-1 victory

The Eagles finished with a slight advantage in total shots, shots on goal, and corner kicks.

Miller and Nunes led the Monarchs offensively as both tallied two shots, Davies, Shane Serio, and Philip Permyashkin all recorded one shot on target. Forst once again got the start in net making four saves in a losing effort.

The Eagles were led on offense by Young who totaled four shots, including three on target, picking up the opening goal. Edwards and Amo Mashigo both tallied two shots, with one on target each. Axel Grater got the start for Juniata, making two saves, picking up the win.

The Monarchs return to action on Wednesday night at McCarthy Stadium, hosting the Ursinus College Bears with kickoff scheduled for 7 p.m.
