Horn's Goal Lifts King's to Draw with Ursinus

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 21, 2022) -- In the nightcap of a soccer doubleheader in McCarthy Stadium, a goal from sophomore Nate Horn served as the lone tally of the night from the King's College men's soccer team as they posted a gritty 1-1 draw with the visiting Ursinus College. With the tie in the non-conference contest, the Monarchs stand at 3-4-1 overall, while the Bears post a 1-3-2 record.

King's (3-4-1) got on the board early as they capitalized on a free kick opportunity as Bryce Nunes found Nate Horn streaking on the opposite side of the field with a great ball to put the Monarchs ahead, 1-0, in just the third minute of action. After a handful of opportunities by the Ursinus (1-3-2) offense, the Bears delivered their lone tally of the evening as Jack Schmidt connected with Tommy Mollis for a header into the bottom left corner of the net to tie the game in the 30th minute and head into the break at a standstill.

The second half was just as evenly matched as the first, with King's holding a slight advantage in both shots (6-5) and corner kicks (3-2). The Monarchs had two solid looks toward the end of regulation, earning a corner kick in the 83rd minute and a free kick just over a minute later, but the contest resulted in a tie, 1-1, after a gritty battle in McCarthy Stadium.

Horn led King's offensive efforts with five shots, including one on target, with a goal for two points. Nunes earned a point with his assist, while Austin Miller totaled two shots in the match. Jake Forst was strong in goal again, making five saves on his six shots faced.

Joshua Coster paced the Bears with two shots, both on goal, with seven other Ursinus players recording a shot. The Bears goalkeeper in Kirk Ransom notched one save in the tie.

Overall, King's edged Ursinus 11-9 in shots and 5-4 in corner kicks in the non-conference draw on Wednesday evening.

The Monarchs will hit the road for a big non-conference match up at Cabrini University on Saturday evening as the game is set for a 6:00 p.m. start in Radnor, Pa.
