Forst Makes Eight Saves as Men's Soccer Earns 1-1 Draw at Cabrini

RADNOR, PA (September 24, 2022) --- The King's College men's soccer endured a feisty affair with host Cabrini, coming away with a hard earned 1-1 draw Saturday evening in Radnor, PA, as the Monarchs move to 3-4-2 on the campaign, while the Cavaliers record moves to 3-3-3.

It was an energetic and physical affair from the outset, as King's (3-4-2) was able to rattle of the first shot of the game just two minutes in as first-year Philip Permyashkin's effort was turned aside. The Monarchs and Cavaliers (3-3-) squads traded shots over the opening 15 minutes, before sophomore Austin Miller was taken down inside the Cavalier box, earning a penalty kick. Miller stepped up for the spot kick and made no mistake, sending the Cabrini keeper the wrong way, giving King's a 1-0 lead in the 18th minute. The Cavaliers responded following Miller's opener tallying two shots, before Tyler Tomlin collected the rebound off a save from junior goalkeeper Jake Forst, to knot the score up at one, in the 25th minute. With the score even, the teams split the final six shots of the half, as they headed into the break squared up at one a piece.

Coming out of the half, Cabrini looked to move in front, but Forst and the Monarch backline did not allow anything to get through. King's waited patiently for an opportunity to break the tie and rattled off three straight shots between the 74th and 85th minutes, but were unable to find the back of the net. With time running down, the Monarchs got one last chance, receiving a corner kick with four seconds left, but Permyashkin's cross was cleared away, as the teams settled for the 1-1 draw.

Cabrini held a slim advantage on shots on target, holding a 9-6 edge, while King's had a slight advantage in corner kicks, 3-2. The cards were flowing throughout the match as the teams combined for 12 total cards, including 10 yellows and two reds.

Permyashkin and junior Liam Yair led the Monarchs with two shots a piece, while a plethora of other players all added single shots. Both of Permyashkin's efforts were on target, while Miller, seniors Justin Decoteau and Bryan Stefans, and sophomore Nate Horn all collected one shot on target. Forst set a career high making eight saves in the match, picking up the draw.

Nick LoBiondo led the Cavalier attack, tallying six total shots, with four on target, while Tomlin and Tyler Jankowski both added three shots. MJ Graham got the start for Cabrini making three saves in the match.

King's returns home for a matchup with Penn College on Wednesday night, with a kickoff scheduled for 7 pm at McCarthy Stadium.
