Six Monarchs Make it to the Semi-Finals of the Men's Tennis King's College Invitational Singles

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 24, 2022) - The Kings College Monarchs men's tennis team tasted success at Kirby Park on Saturday. In day one of the King's College Invitational, six of the seven Monarchs who participated in the singles advanced to Sunday's semi-finals including senior Logan Gregory, sophomore Patrick Pech, graduate student Nick Harth, first year Brendan Turowski, sophomore Cody Zheng and sophomore Jacob Nelson

The No. 1 doubles saw Gregory and Pech fall to Susquehanna University 8-5. In the No. 2 doubles Harth and Turowksi had the first of two doubles victories on the day for the Monarchs. They won a hard-fought 8-6 match over Elizabethtown College then were defeated in the next round by Scranton 8-3. The other Monarchs win in the doubles came from the pairing of Zheng and Nelson who took care of bushiness by defeating Lycoming College 8-4 before falling to the University of Scranton in the quarterfinals 8-2.

For the second tournament in a row, Gregory represented King's in the No. 1 singles bracket where he came away with commanding 6-2 and 6-1 wins over Nathan Redell of Lycoming. Gregory will face top-seeded James Harrington of Scranton in the semi-finals. 

The No. 2 singles bracket also saw a Monarch come away with a dominant victory as Pech took down Francis Tamesis of Arcadia University by scores of 6-1 and 6-2. He will next face Matthew Emery of FDU-Florham in the semis. 

Harth grinded his way to the semifinals in the No. 3 bracket. After taking care of Jesse Knight of Pennsylvania College of Technology by scores of 6-2 in both sets, he faced top-seeded Matthew Nagy of Arcadia. Harth dropped the first set 4-6 before recovering to win the second one 6-3. He emerged victorious in the deciding one 10-7 to pull off an upset. He will look to pull off another upset in the semi-finals against fourth seeded John Duncan of Susquehanna. 

Turowski dominated his No. 4 bracket matchups with a pair of 6-0 wins over Zachary Burkhart of Penn College of Technology. He will go head-to-head with second seeded John Sinclair of Scranton. 

Zheng dropped his first set 2-6 against Gavin Ream of Susquehanna but came back to win the second one 7-6 (5). He then won the final one 10-5. His next opponent will be FDU-Florham's Karanveer Saini.

In the No. 6 singles Nelson defeated Ian Dayhoof of Penn Tech by scores of 6-3 and 6-2. His next matchup will be against Jaden Andressen of FDU-Florham. 

Alex Nole rounded out the singles losing to Ryan Wolford of Scranton 6-1 and 6-0 in the No. 7 singles.

The Monarchs will look to bring home some championships tomorrow as the tournament is set to resume at 8:30 A.M.
