Permyashkin Scores First Career Goal, Men's Soccer Falls 3-1 to Cairn

Box Score WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 3, 2022) --- Philip Permyashkin scored a first-half freekick, but the Cairn University Highlanders scored three unanswered goals to defeat the King's College men's soccer team 3-1 at McCarthy Stadium.

It was an action packed first half as both squads came out ready for the contest, with both squads firing off shots in the opening five minutes. King's however got the first clear cut chance of the afternoon when the Monarchs received a freekick following a foul from Micah Portis. Permyashkin stepped up for the Monarchs and his shot beat the Highlanders wall and snuck inside the righthand post, past Cairn goalkeeper Chris Eelman, to put King's on top 1-0 in the eighth minute.

It did not take long for Cairn to reply though, as Moses Beers rifled a shot past King's goalkeeper Jake Forst, with an assist from Jesse Brittain, to knot the score at 1-1, in the 12th minute.

Cairn continued to put pressure on the King's defense and were able to breakthrough for the go-ahead tally in the 18th minute. Brittain once again was the distributor, this time finding David Falcon who beat Forst, to give the Highlanders the lead.

Cairn once again put the Monarchs defense under duress, as Falcon tallied his second goal of the game, to move the Highlanders in front by two, at 3-1, this team beating Forst in the 23rd minute.

King's begin to settle down after the third goal for Cairn as the squads made their way into the locker rooms, with the Highlanders on top 3-1.

Cairn led in shots and corners at the half, outshooting the Monarchs 9-4, and garnering four corners to the Monarch's one.

King's came out swinging after the break, attempting eight shots in the first 15 minutes of the half, but were unable to find a breakthrough to cut into the deficit.

Following the early push from the Monarchs, but squads traded shots over the final 30 minutes, with neither side adding to their tally, giving Cairn a 3-1 victory.

Permyashkin paced the Monarch offense tallying his first career goal, and adding three shots, while Evan Egnatovich and Austin Miller also added three shots.

On the Cairn side Falcon led the way with his two goals, while Brittain tallied two assists and led the Highlanders with six shots.

With the loss, King's falls to 1-1 on the season, while Cairn picks up their first win of the season, improving to 1-0-1.

King's returns to action tomorrow to close out their season opening homestand, as the Monarchs host Immaculata University at McCarthy Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 3 pm.
