Yair and Vollrath Score, Men's Soccer Fall to Immaculata 5-2

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 4, 2022) --- The King's College men's soccer team battled from an early deficit, falling to Immaculata University 5-2 at McCarthy Stadium Sunday afternoon.

Immaculata come out of the gates quick, jumping in front 1-0 just 16 seconds in the match. John Bohrer took advantage of a misplaced pass from King's goalkeeper Eric Siciliano, beating the latter to put the Mighty Macs in front.

The Monarchs began to settle down a little as both squads traded shots over the next fifteen minutes, before the Mighty Macs were able to extend their lead. This time Josh Fonder found the back of the net to move Immaculata in front 2-0 in the 19th minute.

Immaculata double their lead to 4-0, following two goals in a 49 second span. Oldy Dielce extended the lead to three, before Fonder tallied his second as an errant ball back to Siciliano got by the goalkeeper.

After those two goals, King's held their own, making their way into the halftime break trailing 4-0.

While Immaculata led at the break in shots, 9-5, King's held the advantage in corner kicks, 4-1, with both sides getting called for three fouls.

The teams came out of halftime and traded shots through the first twenty minutes, with the Monarchs holding a slim 4-3 shot advantage during that time. However, the Mighty Macs added to their lead as Matthew Kirkpatrick's shot was able to beat King's goalkeeper Jake Forst.

King's did not go away easily though and fought back. After a foul leading to a free kick just outside the right hand side of the 18-yard box, Liam Yair stepped up and put a ball into the box which wormed its way through the jumble of bodies ending up in the net to cut the deficit to 5-1.

The Monarchs trimmed the deficit once again, this time as Chris Vollrath took advantage of a goalkeeper error from Jordan Davis, knocking down Davis's pass and redirecting it into the open goal, making it a 5-2 contest.

The tilt was hotly contested as both teams combined for 22 fouls, while King's had a decided advantage on corner kicks, 9-3.

Yair collected his second goal of the season, with his free kick tally, while Vollrath notched his first goal of his career.

For Immaculata Fonder led the way with two goals, while Bohrer, Dielce, and Kirkpatrick all scored once.

With the loss, King's falls to 1-2 on the young season, while Immaculata picks up their first win, improving to 1-1.

The Monarchs return to action on Wednesday as the squad travels down to Carlisle, PA to take on Dickinson College with kickoff scheduled for 7 pm.
