WILKES-BARERE, PA (January 13, 2023) --- The King's College women's ice hockey team battled hard, but ultimately fell to visiting Neumann University 5-2 on Friday night at The Revolution Ice Centre. With the loss King's falls to 0-13-1 overall and 0-11-1 in UCHC play, while Neumann improves to 4-11-0 overall and 3-8-0 in UCHC play.

Neumann (4-11-0, 3-8-0) came out quickly firing the first shot of the contest, forcing an early save from sophomore goaltender
Syd Dahl. King's (0-13-1, 0-11-1) replied quickly, tallying their first shot, as sophomore
Emma Besa's effort was turned away by Neumann goaltender Ally Joly. Midway through the frame, the Knights struck first, as Gia Santorello found the net, giving Neumann a 1-0 lead at 12:19, a lead they would take into the first intermission.

The teams traded opportunities to start the second period, before King's upped the pressure looking for an equalizer. The Monarchs thought they had found it, as a shot appeared to go in the back of the net, but was ruled no goal, midway through the period. Neumann took advantage of the break and doubled their lead at 14:41 on a goal by Taylor Ettore, to give the Knights a 2-0 lead after 40 minutes of play.

King's came out quickly in the third period, cutting the deficit in half at 3:30 as sophomore
Emma Clark found a lose puck and poked it home, as first-year
Madison Vaughan picked up the assist. The Knights tallied the next three goals, before sophomore
Kait Wolf notched her first collegiate goal at 18:39 off assists from Vaughan and first-year
Amanda Sokol. However, the Knights held on to pick up the 5-2 victory.

Dahl got the start in net, making 31 saves on 36 shots. Offensively, King's were led by Vaughan who tallied two points on two assists, and Wolf and Clark who both recorded a goal. The Monarchs held the advantage in the face-off circle, winning 28 of 52 draws, led by sophomore
Jordan Dittmar, winning 11 of 18 draws, while going 2-2 on the penalty kill and 0-2 on the power play.

Joly picked up the win in net, stopping 23 of 25 shots faced. Ettore paced the Knights offense, tallying two points on two goals. Neumann went 2-2 on the penalty kill and 0-2 on the power play, while winning 24 of 52 face-offs.

King's finishes up the weekend series with Neumann on Saturday afternoon at The Revolution Ice Centre, with puck drop set for 3 p.m.
