Women's Hockey Falls to Neumann 5-0 on Saturday

WILKES-BARERE, PA (January 14, 2023) --- The King's College women's ice hockey team dropped a matchup with visiting Neumann University, falling to the Knights 5-0 on Saturday. With the loss King's falls to 0-14-1 overall and 0-12-1 in conference play, while Neumann improves to 5-11-0 overall and 4-8-0 in UCHC play.
 
King's (0-14-1, 0-12-1) started quickly, tallying eight of the first 10 shots of the contest, as first-year Olivia McTavish and sophomore Emma Clark both tallied two shots in the stretch, but were unable to break through for the opening goal. Neumann (5-11-0, 4-8-0) replied right away, ending the run, by opening the scoring at 7:36, as Lian Sydorowicz found the break off the net, to put the Knights up 1-0. Neumann doubled their lead late in the period as Sydney Squires beat sophomore goaltender Syd Dahl at 16:55, to give the Knights a 2-0 advantage after the opening period.
 
The second period was a back-and-forth affair as both teams traded opportunities for most of the period. Neumann eventually found the back of the net to extend the lead at 19:26 on a goal from Jasmine Martinez, taking a 3-0 lead into the third period. In the final period Neumann added two more goals, taking the contest 5-0.
 
Dahl got the start in net, making 29 saves on 34 shots. Offensively, King's were led by McTavish who recorded six shots in the contest, while Clark, junior Aspen Wallin, and first-year Svetlana Yarosh all added three shots. The Monarchs were once again strong in the face-off circle, winning 26 of 46 draws, led by sophomore Jordan Dittmar who won 12 of 17. King's went 0-3 on the power play and 2-5 on the penalty kill.
 
Ally Joly picked up the win in net, stopping all 27 shots faced. Sydorowicz and Gina Santorello paced the Knights attack, as both recorded three points, a goal and two assists for Sydorowicz and three assists for Santorello. Neumann won 20 of 46 face-offs, going 3-5 on the power play and 3-3 on the penalty kill.
 
King's heads out on the road to take on Stevenson at the Reistertown Sportsplex on Friday, with puck drop set for 3 p.m.
