STEVENSON, MD (January 20, 2023) --- The King's College women's ice hockey team went on the road and battled hard, falling to host Stevenson University 5-3 on Friday. With the loss King's falls to 0-15-1 overall, 0-13-1 in the UCHC, and 0-5-1 in MAC play, while Stevenson improves to 6-9-0, 3-7-0 in UCHC play, and 1-3-0 in the MAC.

Stevenson (6-9-0, 3-7-0, 1-3-0) opened the contest quickly, firing off the first five shots of the game, forcing sophomore goaltender
Syd Dahl into some early saves. However, King's (0-15-1, 0-13-1, 0-5-1) struck first as sophomore forward
Emma Clark let a shot go that found it's way into the back of the net, giving the Monarchs a 1-0 at 8:19. The Mustangs replied in short order as Meghan Croyle scored just 40 seconds later to tie the game at one. Stevenson moved in front with just under four minutes to play in the frame, as Karly Aguirre put the Mustangs in front 2-1 at 16:21. The Monarchs got a break while shorthanded, as first-year
Amanda Sokol collected a lose puck in her own end, firing from 180 feet away into an open net, after miscommunication on the Stevenson backend to tie the game at two at 18:53.

Both teams traded chances early in the second period, before the Mustangs tallied twice on the power-play on goals from Tea Ferrara at 8:49 and Croyle at 11:59 to move in front 4-2. King's once again answered, this time as first-year
Brighton Wallin collected her first collegiate goal finishing off a pass from first-year
Olivia McTavish to cut the deficit to 4-3 at 12:52. Stevenson added another power-play goal at 16:51 from Cassie Campbell to take a 5-3 lead into the third period. King's had opportunities to cut into the Mustang lead in the third period, but were unable to find the net, falling 5-3.

Dahl got the start in net, making 36 saves on 41 shots. Offensively, King's were led by Clark, Sokol, and
Brighton Wallin who all recorded one goal, while McTavish and junior
Aspen Wallin both added an assist. The Monarchs won 15 of 52 face-offs, led by sophomore
Jordan Dittmar who went 6-18. King's went 0-2 on the power-play, while going 6-9 on the penalty kill.

Mallory Hunt got the start in net, making eight saves on 11 shots. The Mustangs were led on offense by Croyle who tallied two goals, while Campbell and Ferrara both added a goal and an assist. Stevenson went 3-9 on the power-play and 2-2 on the penalty kill while winning 37 of 52 face-offs.

King's remains in Maryland to finish off the weekend series with Stevenson on Saturday, with puck drop once again set for 3 p.m.
