Women's Hockey Comes Up Short Against Stevenson, Falling 1-0

STEVENSON, MD (January 21, 2023) --- The King's College women's ice hockey team fought hard again against Stevenson, once again coming up short, falling to the Mustangs 1-0 on Saturday. With the loss King's falls to 0-16-1 overall, 0-14-1 in the UCHC, and 0-6-1 in MAC play, while Stevenson improves to 7-9-0, 4-7-0 in UCHC play, and 2-3-0 in the MAC.
 
Stevenson (7-9-0, 4-7-0, 2-3-0) opened the match quickly, opening the scoring just over a minute into the contest, as Meghan Croyle collected the rebound off a save from sophomore goaltender Syd Dahl, finding the back of the net to put the Mustangs on top 1-0 at 1:19. Following a couple more chances for Stevenson, King's (0-16-1, 0-14-1, 0-6-1) got their first good chance of the afternoon, as first-year Olivia McTavish had an effort turned aside at 5:37. Both teams traded opportunities, but the Mustangs took a 1-0 advantage after 20 minutes.
 
King's opened up the second period on the front foot, tallying the first four shots in the frame, looking to knot up the game, but were unable to find the back of the net. Again, the teams went back-and-forth for the remainder of the period, but the Mustangs remained on top 1-0 after the second. King's had opportunities in the third period, having a player advantage three times in the frame, but were unable to break through, as the Monarchs fell 1-0.
 
Dahl was strong in net, turning aside 24 of 25 shots faced on the afternoon. Offensively, King's were led by first-year Svetlana Yarosh who recorded four shots, while junior Diana Duncan added three. The Monarchs won 21 of 55 face-offs, led by sophomore Jordan Dittmar who went 6-13 in the circle. King's went 2-2 on the penalty kill, while going 0-3 on the power play.
 
Olivia DeGuire made the start in goal, stopping all 20 shots faced. Croyle paced the Stevenson attack, recording the only goal of the contest. The Mustangs went 3-3 on the penalty kill and 0-2 on the power play, while winning 34 of 55 face-offs,
 
King's returns to Wilkes-Barre but will be the visiting team in the cross-town battle as the Monarchs take on Wilkes on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Toyota SportsPlex.
