Wrestling Falls in Heartbreaking Fashion to Delaware Valley

WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 27, 2023) – Heading into the final bout of the match, the King's College wrestling team held a two-point lead, but a tough battle in the heavyweight match up proved too much for the Monarchs as King's fell, 18-17, to Delaware Valley University on Friday night in McGrane Gymnasium. With the loss, the Monarchs fall to 3-3 in dual meets, while the Aggies improve to 8-4.
 
Gus Petruske IV started the match strong for King's (3-3) as he picked up three points on a 6-1 decision win at 125, taking advantage of a four-point second period. The Aggies got on the board at 133 as Ryan Kelly defeated Cole Anderson by an 11-5 decision, and the visitors tacked on another three points thanks to a 15-10 decision win for Taylor Weaver over Hugh Bittenbender at 141.
 
King's rallied at 149 as Shane Kibler used a quick 4-2 start after the opening period to post a 7-5 decision win over Delaware Valley's (8-4) Andre Henene. The visitors reclaimed the lead at 157 as Greg Croce defeated Colby Spencer by a fall, and the Aggies continued their momentum at 165 as Bret Murphy fell by a 3-1 decision to Adam Coleman.
 
Kade Kravtis continued his good fortune after a strong outing last weekend as he earned King's a much-needed three points, pulling within 15-9, with a 7-3 decision over Luke Moore behind a strong 4-1 lead in the first. Connor Wrobleski came out strong to start in the 184 bout, dominating Jake Nase to a technical fall in 3:00, allowing the Monarchs to close within one, 15-14.
 
It was Richard Fronheiser who posted a gritty 6-4 decision win over Isaiah Johnson, using four takedowns in the third to secure the win and give King's the 17-15 advantage heading into the heavyweight bout. The Aggies had the final say in the meet as Logan Flynn earned a tough 6-2 victory over Jacob Feese to give Delaware Valley the 18-17 win over King's in McGrane Gymnasium on Friday night.
 
The Monarchs will be back in their home gym tomorrow afternoon as they host Lycoming College at noon in McGrane Gymnasium.
