Women's Hockey Falls to Arcadia on Saturday

WILKES-BARRE, PA (January 7, 2023) --- The King's College women's ice hockey team fell to visiting Arcadia University 8-0 on Saturday from the Revolution Ice Centre. With the loss King's falls to 0-12-1 overall, 0-10-1 in UCHC play, and 0-2-1 in MAC play, while Arcadia improves to 6-5-2 overall, 2-4-2 in UCHC play, and 2-0-0 in MAC play. 
 
Arcadia (6-5-2, 2-4-2, 2-0-0) came out quickly, opening the scoring just over a minute and a half into the contest, as Maeve Hourihan finished off a play from Leah Hatcher to put the Knights in front 1-0 at 1:33. The Knights doubled their lead just three minutes later on a tally from Haylee Kos at 4:25, before King's (0-12-1, 0-10-1, 0-2-1) recorded their first shot of the game from graduate student Issy Lebrun. Arcadia added one more goal in the period from Ariel Williamson to give the Knights a 3-0 lead after the first period. 
 
The teams traded chances in the opening stages of the middle frame before Williamson tallied her second goal of the game at 2:48. King's responded on the power play creating a few good looks, but were unable to find the net, and cut into the deficit. Arcadia added two more goals in the period to take a 6-0 lead after 40 minutes. 
 
King's opened the third period looking to get on the board and had their best chance of the game as senior Charlotte McClanahan rang an effort off the crossbar. The Knights scored twice in the period to take the contest 8-0. 
 
Sophomore goaltender Syd Dahl faced 50 shots, making 42 saves. Offensively, the Monarchs were led by Lebrun who tallied four shots, first-year Brighton Wallin who recorded three shots, and junior Diana Duncan who also notched three shots. King's also blocked 16 shots in the contest, with five players recording multiple blocks, led by Wallin's three blocks. The game was even in the face-off circle, as the Monarchs won 27 of 55 draws, led first-years Olivia McTavish and Madison Vaughan, who both won nine draws, and sophomore Jodan Dittmar who won eight of 12. King's went 4-7 on the penalty kill and 0-1 on the power play. 
 
Jo Coates stopped all 18 shots faced, picking up the win. Hourihan led the Knights attack, tallying four points on one goal and three assists. Arcadia went 1-1 on the penalty kill and 3-7 on the power play, while winning 28 of 55 face-offs. 
 
King's returns to action on Friday night, as the Monarchs host Neumann University at The Revolution Ice Centre at 7:30 p.m.
