Second Quarter Costly for Field Hockey in 3-1 Loss at Arcadia

GLENSIDE, PA (October 14, 2023) -- The host Arcadia University scored all three of their goals in the second quarter as the King's College field hockey team fell, 3-1, on the road in a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) match up. With the setback, the Monarchs fall to 3-12 overall and 0-3 in the conference standings, while the Knights improved to 8-6 with a 2-1 MAC Freedom mark.

It was a slow start for both teams on Saturday afternoon as Arcadia (8-6, 2-1 MAC Freedom) fired off two shots, one saved by Grace Venis and the other wide, as the game entered the second quarter scoreless. The Knights then took command in the second, scoring three goals off eight shots to hold a 3-0 edge over King's (3-12, 0-3 MAC Freedom) at the break.

The Monarchs found their stride to start the third, scoring in the first 4:11 of game clock, but Arcadia would regain control down the stretch to limit a King's comeback effort. The Knights then attempted to build on their 3-1 advantage, but the Monarch defense stifled the attempts time and again before falling, 3-1, on the road on Saturday afternoon in Glenside.

Clark led the Monarchs with her goal on the lone shot of the game, while Venis totaled 12 saves in the complete-game effort in the cage.

Mackenzie Clark score twice on a team-leading eight shots, while Morganne Dee tallied a goal and an assist off six shots to lead Arcadia. Anna Doblovosky secured the win in goal for the Knights.

The Monarchs will return to Wilkes-Barre for their final two home games in the 2023 regular season. King's will host Delaware Valley on Wednesday, October 18 at McCarthy Stadium at 4:00 p.m. before taking on DeSales on Saturday afternoon.
