HAMBURG, NY (October 28, 2023) -- The King's College women's ice hockey team held a 1-0 edge after the opening period, but the host Hilbert College posted three second-period goals as the Monarchs fell, 5-3, on Saturday afternoon at the Nike Base. With the setback, the Monarchs stand at 1-1-0 overall, while the Hawks improve to 1-1-0.

King's (1-1-0) continued their momentum from Friday evening's victory as
Jordan Dittmar scored an unassisted goal just 3:27 into the period. The game was evenly contested throughout the period as the shot totals were notched at 8-8, but the Monarchs carried their 1-0 lead into the first break.

It took just 1:58 for Hilbert (1-1-0) to find the equalizer before scoring two quick goals in the ninth and tenth minutes of the second period to hold a 3-1 edge over King's heading into the third.

The Hawks added to their lead 4:24 into the third on a power-play opportunity, but King's responded in the 13
th minute as
Amanda Sokol was assisted by
Maddie Vaughan on a short-handed play to pull the Monarchs within 4-2. King's added on another score with 3:30 remaining as
Issy Lebrun fed
Abby Barlocker to see the Monarchs close within a goal, 4-3, but Hilbert found the back of the net with 1:20 to play as the Monarchs fell, 5-3, on the road on Saturday afternoon.

Barlocker led King's with a goal on a team-high eight shots, while Lebrun collected a point on an assist with four shots and six face off victories.
Sam Kulman matched Lebrun's four-shot effort, while both Dittmar and Sokol scored off two shots a piece.
Emma Dos Santos led the Monarchs in the face off circle, posting a team-high seven on just 12 attempts, while
Hayley Packer made 26 saves, including all eight shots faced in the first, in the loss.

Both Kaitlin Cowie and Caitlin Conrad had multi-goal efforts to lead Hilbert, with Cowie's coming on a team-leading five shots and Conrad had a game-high 16 face off wins. Tia Card earned the win in goal for the Hawks with 26 saves.
King's was slightly edged in the shot column, 31-29, while winning 23 of 52 face offs and making three blocks as a team.

The Monarchs will return to Pennsylvania as the prepare to open United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) play with a home-and-away series with Alvernia next weekend. King's will travel to reading on Friday evening before hosting the Golden Wolves in their home opener at the Revolution Ice Centre on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
