READING, PA (November 3, 2023) --
Syd Dahl was solid in the net once again for the Monarchs, but despite her efforts the King's College women's ice hockey team fell, 6-0, to Alvernia University in their United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) opener. With the setback at the Body Zone Sports and Wellness Complex on Friday night, the Monarchs drop to 1-2-0 overall, 0-1-0 in the UCHC, and 0-1-0 in the MAC, while the Golden Wolves remain unbeaten at 3-0-0, 1-0-0 in the UCHC, and 1-0-0 in the MAC.

The host Alvernia (3-0-0, 1-0-0 UCHC, 1-0-0 MAC) got on the board early, scoring 1:04 into the game, but Dahl made six saves over the next 11:20 of action. The Golden Wolves broke through again with another score in the 12
th minute of the first as the Monarchs trailed, 2-0, at the first break.

The King's (1-2-0, 0-1-0 UCHC, 0-1-0 MAC) defense remained strong to start the second, but with 6:09 to play in the period the Golden Wolves finally found their opening to put their lone tally of the period on the board. King's made a push in their offensive zone down the stretch, earning two power play opportunities and firing off  seven shots, but each attempt came up short as Alvernia maintained their 3-0 edge after two periods of action.

In the final period of the contest, King's continued to hold off a scoring attack from Alvernia, but the unbeaten Golden Wolves overpowered the Monarchs down the stretch, scoring three goals in the final 5:20 of play before posting the 6-0 final in Reading on Friday evening.

Abby Barlocker and
Jordan Dittmar each posted a team-high two shots in the loss, while both
Issy Lebrun and
Maddie Vaughan recorded seven face off wins. Additionally,
Brenna Munn and
Emma Dos Santos blocked two shots in the loss. Dahl totaled 34 saves in the complete-game effort, including 15 of 16 shots faced in the second.

Khenzie Connick led the Golden Wolves with two goals on a team-high six shots, while Sydney Bradley assisted twice. Julia Franklin was efficient in the face off circle, winning 11-of-15, while Carolyn Burton blocked two shot attempts. Juliana Rodgers earned the win in goal for Alvernia, making nine saves.

As a team, the Monarchs won 17 face offs in the contest while blocking eight shots.

King's will return home to host Alvernia in the second game of the UCHC and MAC series, opening at the Revolution Ice Centre for the first time in the 2023-24 season. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in Pittston, Pa.
