MAHWAH, NJ (October 4, 2023) -- An all-around team effort, which included a brilliant goal by
Christopher Vollrath and a superb effort leading to a clean sheet in net for
Jake Forst, saw the King's College Monarchs defeat Ramapo College 1-0.
King's (4-4-1) made the long journey to Ramapo (2-6-2) and showed up with intensity, ready to knock over their opponent. Goals were scarce in this game as the only one came in the 44
th minute of the first half off the foot of Vollrath, who snuck the ball past the goalkeeper into the lower left corner of the goal to give the Monarchs the lead. Saul Lagunas Jr. picked up his first career point assisting Vollrath's goal.
The late first half goal sparked the Monarchs and the squad battled hard in the second half of play. Forst proved to be unbeatable in goal for King's making eight saves. Ramapo posted 15 shots in the second half and 24 across the game, and the King's defense only allowed the Roadrunners to put eight shots on frame.
Between the teamwork on the Monarchs frontline attack, the unstoppable defensive line, and Forst in goal, the Monarchs were able to pull off the 1-0 victory.
Vollrath notched his third goal of the season while Lagunas Jr. picked up an assist.
Buck Diacont and
Evan Egnatovich each took two shots for the Monarchs, while
Nate Horn,
Liam Yair, and
Philip Permyashkin each had one shot attempt. Forst earned his first clean sheet of the year while making eight saves. In addition to all the Monarchs individual stats, the King's defense successfully fended off 10 Roadrunner corner attempts.
Luigi Portillo took five shots for Ramapo, while Kyle Allen attempted three shots. Gabriel Espada and Aidan Scarpelli split time in goal tallying five saves altogether.
The Monarchs will return to play Saturday, October 7 at 12:00 p.m. on the road at Delaware Valley University for a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom contest. The squad will return to McCarthy Stadium Wednesday, November 11 against Washington College at 7:00 p.m.
