DOYLESTOWN, PA (October 7, 2023) -- A miraculous shot from deep, off the foot of
Shane Serio, gave the Monarchs the lone goal they needed to pull off a Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) victory over Delaware Valley University.
There was little action in the first half of Saturday's game, as both teams combined for six shots, with only three being dangerous enough to force a goalkeeper's save. King's College (5-4-1, 1-0-1) decided to change the pace of the game and came out in the second half ablaze.
The Monarchs outshot the Aggies (3-6-2, 0-2-0) 12-1 in the second half, showing their eagerness to try to break the game open. Along with outshooting the Aggies, the Monarchs also created eight corner kick opportunities in the half compared to the Aggies who only had one. The chance to score presented itself in the 81
st minute when Serio received a miss-kick by the Delaware Valley goalkeeper and punched the ball into the back of the goal from over 20 yards out.
This proved to be the only goal the Monarchs needed as they earned a 1-0 victory over the Aggies to give themselves their first MAC Freedom win of the season.
Serio scored giving the Monarchs the win; however,
Philip Permyashkin paced the King's offense taking four shots and placing them all on net.
Evan Egnatovich,
Saul Lagunas Jr. and Serio all recorded two shots for the Monarchs. In goal
Eric Siciliano picked up his second clean sheet of the season making three important saves in net.
Roy Hevener led the Aggies with two shots, placing both on goal. Liam Morris started in goal for the Aggies and recorded one save. Andrew Roberto took over in the second half making six saves.
The Monarchs will return to play Wednesday, October 11 as they play host to non-conference opponent Washington College (Md) at McCarthy Stadium. Kick off is slated for 7 p.m.
