Women's Ice Hockey Earns First Conference Win of the Season Versus Lebanon Valley

Pittston, PA (Nov. 18, 2023) – King's College women's ice hockey defeated the Lebanon Valley College Flying Dutchmen 2-1 in the second game of the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) series after losing in overtime the night before at Revolution Ice Centre. Issy Lebrun and Amanda Sokol scored for King's to secure the win, while goalkeeper Syd Dahl held off Lebanon Valley in the cage with 32 saves. This is the Monarchs' first UCHC and MAC conference win since the 2021-22 season.

Both teams hit the ice with intensity right as the first puck dropped. While the Flying Dutchmen outshot the Monarchs 15-12 in the first period, King's found the back of the net first. Lebrun scored the first goal of the game with just a minute and a half remaining in the first period thanks to assists from Jordan Dittmar and Sammi Stead. The Monarchs held off the Flying Dutchmen for the remainder of the period to end the first with a 1-0 lead.

King's defense was able to withhold Lebanon Valley to just two shots in the first five and a half minutes of the second period before the Flying Dutchmen tied the game up 1-1. Nearly six minutes into the period, Lebanon Valley's Victoria Scurto scored the team's lone goal of the day. However things did not stay tied up for long as the Monarchs scored their second goal of the game about 13 and a half minutes into the second from Sokol and assisted by Dittmar again and Aspen Wallin after power play started just prior after Lebanon Valley received a penalty for interference. King's finished the second period in the lead yet again, this time up by 2-1.

Neither teams scored in the third period despite the Flying Dutchmens' efforts to score leaving the goal empty and adding an extra skater in the last two minutes of the game. Despite outshooting the Monarchs 33-22 overall and leaving their goal empty to add an extra skater within the last two minutes of the game, the Flying Dutchmens' efforts to score again fell short. King's defeated Lebanon Valley with a final score of 2-1.

The Monarchs' next game is Wednesday Nov. 22, 2023, versus Wilkes University in another UCHC matchup at home, Revolution Ice Centre, with a 2 p.m. puck drop.
