Women's Ice Hockey Suffers 3-0 Loss to Wilkes

PITTSTON, PA (Nov. 22, 2023) - - The King's College women's ice hockey team lost to the Wilkes University Colonels 3-0 on Saturday at Revolution Ice Centre. The Monarchs are now 2-7-0 overall this season and 1-6-0 in the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC).

The Monarchs and Colonels battled back and forth in the first period of play with 6 and 7 shots respectively and ending in a 0-0 tie. However, the Colonels took lead of the game 4:38 into the second period after Wilkes's Tilly Wierdsma scored the first goal of the day. Wilkes continued to dominate in the following 10 minutes to put Amanda Spreadbury in position to score the team's second goal and put the Colonels up 2-0.

Despite Spreadbury scoring her second goal of the day to ultimately give the Colonels a 3-0 win in the third period, King's held Wilkes to just five shots in the final 20 minutes of play. The Monarchs also notched six shots of their own, but were unable to find the back of the net.

Overall, the Colonels out-shot the Monarchs 32-16. Emma Dos Santos and Abby Barlocker both tallied three shots each for King's, while Maddie Vaughan won nine faceoffs. Syd Dahl also had 29 saves in goal for the Monarchs.

The Monarchs hit the road for their next non-conference matchup against Morrisville State on Nov. 28 at 6 p.m.
