Fourth Quarter Proves Costly in Setback against Lycoming

WILKES-BARRE, PA (November 18, 2023) -- It was a closely-contested match up in McGrane Gymnasium, but it was fourth-quarter struggles that proved costly as the King's College women's basketball team fell, 55-47, to Lycoming College on Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs now stand at 2-2 overall, while the Warriors improved to 3-0.

Alli Lindsay started the game with back-to-back threes to see King's (2-2) take the early 6-0 lead, but Lycoming (3-0) chipped away at the deficit and tied the game with 4:32 to play in the quarter. A layup from Gianna Dickson and a triple from Rowan Murray saw the Monarchs rebuild their advantage, but the Warriors again found a way to knot the score before taking the lead, 13-11, at the first break. Lycoming led by as much as six points throughout the second, but King's kept the game close  as a jumper from Caileigh Costello and a three from Cadie Lewis late in the frame brought the Monarchs within one, 24-23, at the halftime break.

The team's matched each other's efforts basket-for-basket in the third, including six lead changes, with the Warriors ahead, 35-32, thanks to a layup from Emily Lockard with 24 seconds to go in the period. Lycoming used a 7-0 spurt to being the final quarter to build a 42-32 advantage, but the Monarchs would not back down as they closed within six, 53-47, on a three from Deanna Wallace with 42 seconds remaining, but all comeback efforts came up shy in the 55-47 defeat on Saturday afternoon in McGrane Gymnasium.

Lindsay led the Monarchs with 13 points on 5-for-10 shooting, including 3-for-5 from three, while Dickson added eight points and seven rebounds.
