WILKES-BARRE, PA (NOVEMBER 18, 2023) -- The King's College wrestling team dropped their first home dual against the Bullets of Gettysburg 20-28 on Saturday afternoon.
The first bout in McGrane Gymnasium,
Patrick Horvath (So.) earned big points in the third period to gain a 12-2 major decision against Kyle Collins (Fy.) at 125. In the 133 weight class,
Shane Meenaghan (Fy.) had his first match as a Monarch against Brendan Callahan (Fy.) and fell at 4:00. At 141,
Noah Clawson (Jr.) was pinned by Luke Kowalski (Sr.) in 1:43.
Shane Kibler (So.) battled hard in the 149 weight class for King's, but dropped his contest to Ethan Composto (Fy.) in a 3:40 fall.Â
At 157, Martin Turi (Fy.) brought the Monarchs back on the board as he had a late push in the third period to get a 7-4 decision over Heath Rudolph (Jr.).
Bret Murphy (Jr.) made Justin Richey (So.) scoreless in a 4-0 decision in the 165 weight class. At 174, Connor Hoefling (Fy.) bounced back for the Bullets as he pinned
Xavian Ramos (So.) in 2:56. At 184,
Connor Wrobleski (So.) won his battle against James Doliscar (Fy.) in a major decision 10-2. Rich Fronheiser (Jr.) rallied the squad in the 197 dual as he pinned Phil Nav (So.) in 4:30 to make the score 20-24. At heavy weight,
Nick Valenzano (So.) lost his match in a 13-1 major decision against Simon Taylor (So.).Â
King's hosted three exhibition matches this afternoon.
Nick Germano (Jr.) won his 141 bout in a 8-0 major decision against Justin Musmanno (Fy.).
Alex Ballantyne (So.) took a 12-6 decision over Graham Chandler (Jr.) at 174.
Bill Grace (Gr.) pinned Yeorgios Georgas (Fy.) in 2:54 to end the Saturday contest in the 197 weight class.Â
The Monarchs will be attending the Messiah Petrofes Invitational on December 1
st and 2
nd after a short Thanksgiving break. The crew will be back in McGrane to host a tri-match against New Jersey City and Keystone College on Saturday, December 16
th starting at 10 a.m. before the holiday break.Â
