Lebrun Breaks Through Golden Wolves Defense to Score on Saturday

PITTSTON, PA (November 4, 2023) -- Issy Lebrun scored in the second period to put up the first goal of the season against the Alvernia University defense as the King's College women's ice hockey team fell in their home opener at the Revolution Ice Centre, 5-1, on Saturday afternoon. The Monarchs now stand at 1-3-0 overall, 0-2-0 in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC), and 0-2-0 in the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC), while the Golden Wolves remain undefeated at 4-0-0, 2-0-0 in the UCHC, and 2-0-0 in the MAC.

Alvernia (4-0-0, 2-0-0 UCHC, 2-0-0 MAC) tallied two first period goals, but King's (1-3-0, 0-2-0 UCHC, 0-2-0 MAC) scored the first goal the Golden Wolves have allowed all season to kick things off in the second as Sammi Stead and Jordan Dittmar fed Lebrun with 9:01 remaining in the period to close within 2-1.

The Golden Wolves forged ahead as they tallied three in the second to go ahead, 5-1, into the final intermission. Neither team found much of a rhythm in the final period with an evenly contested shot total in favor of Alvernia, 7-6, as the Golden Wolves defeated the Monarchs, 5-1, in their home opener at the Revolution Ice Centre on Saturday afternoon.

Lebrun scored on a team-leading three shots with 10 face off victories, while both Emma Dos Santos and Maddie Vaughan tallied five victories each in the face off circle. Defensively, Brighton Wallin and Dianna Duncan blocked two shots a piece, while Syd Dahl made 35 saves in net.

Kathryn Palmer led the Golden Wolves with a goal and two assists, while Julia Franklin recorded a team-high seven shots. In the face off circle, Lexi Hooper earned six wins, while Juliana Rodgers saved 10 shots to earn the win.

As a tea, the Monarchs were slightly edged in the face off column, 25-23, while blocking four shots.

King's will be back on the road next weekend as they take on Nazareth in a weekend UCHC series, starting Friday evening at 7:00 p.m. in Rochester, N.Y.
