COLLEGEVILLE, PA (NOVEMBER 4, 2023) -- The King's College women's volleyball team saw junior setter
Keely Hoban reach a career milestone of 1,000 assists during Saturday's tri-match against the Bears of Ursinus and the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy. The Monarchs (14-14, 1-6 MAC Freedom) went 0-3 against the Bears (11-15) and 1-3 against the Griffins (11-14) during the afternoon matchups in Floy Lewis Bakes Center.
vs. Ursinus L, 0-3 (17-25, 12-25, 16-25):
It was a slow start for King's in the first set of the afternoon as Ursinus started off with a 12-4 lead. The Monarchs came alive soon after as they had an 8-4 jolt that included
Joy Kindall (So.),
Lindsay Arezina (Fy.), and
Mia Campanile (So.). The Bears maintained their lead and eventually won the first set 25-17.

Ursinus maintained their momentum and controlled the majority of the second set. King's had a late four-point push with the help of an ace by
Bella Salvia (So.) to make the score 23-12. Ursinus took the set 25-12.

The start of the third and final set of the matchup was much like the second. The score was 23-9 when the Monarchs made a 7-1 jolt that comprised of
Emma Monson (Jr.),
Kathy Shepherd (So.), and Salvia. The Bears remained victorious with a score of 25-16.

King's ended with 22 kills, 22 assists, 53 digs, and a hitting percentage of .010.
Keely Hoban (Jr.) sparked the offense with 16 assists. Shepherd led the squad with six kills. On the defensive end,
Morgan Williams (So.) had 15 digs with
Adriana Conforti (Jr.) following with her own 14.

Ursinus' Caroline Sherman had 14 kills and Mel Eglinton followed with 10. Rachel Bernard dished out 19 helpers. Emma Illovsky fueled the defense with 13 digs.

vs. Gwynedd Mercy, 1-3 (25-20, 20-25, 23-25, 19-25):
It was a battle in the first set as there were six ties. The score was 10-10 when the King's with a 5-1 run to take the lead. Gwynedd Mercy would try to reach their way to a lead, but the Monarchs had every answer. King's made yet another 6-2 stretch that included
Emma Monson (Jr.) and
Joy Kindall (So.). Monarchs won 25-20.

The Griffins controlled much of the second set with a 6-2 start. Every time King's went up two, Gwynedd Mercy responded back with their own. The score was 20-12 when the Monarchs made a 5-2 push to make it 22-17. The Griffins eventually took the set 25-10.

The third set was electric as there were 12 different times the score was tied. Both squads traded points throughout the matchup. After a late King's timeout, the crew had a 3-1 burst that included
Theresa Lynch (So.) and Monson to tie it up 21-21. Gwynedd Mercy gradually won 25-23.

The fourth and final set of the afternoon was much like the prior sets. The Monarchs were down two when they had four straight tallies to take the lead at 18-17. The Griffins had a 7-2 spark to win 25-19.

King's ended with 43 kills, 38 assists, 72 digs, and a hitting percentage of .160.
Keely Hoban (Jr.) had 17 assists and 16 digs. Kindall added a new career high of 20 kills and a hitting percentage of .548 to fuel the offense. The defensive end saw
Morgan Williams (So.) with 24 digs and
Bella Salvia (So.) following with 14 of her own.

Gwynedd Mercy's Bria Purnell with 19 kills and 10 digs. Ayanna Gaston had most of her team's assists with a whopping 51 helpers. Charlotte Pugh led the defense 31 digs.
