Dahl Sets Career Saves Record as Women's Hockey Falls 5-0 to Alvernia

READING, PA (February 17, 2023) --- Sophomore goaltender Syd Dahl set the career saves mark at 1,536 saves, as the King's College women's ice hockey team fell to host Alvernia 5-0 on Friday afternoon. With the loss, King's falls to 2-20-2 overall, 0-17-2 in United Collegiate Hockey Conference play, and 0-7-2 in MAC play, while Alvernia improves to 11-10-3 overall, 10-8-1 in UCHC action, and 7-2-0 in MAC action.
 
It was a fast start for Alvernia (11-10-3, 10-8-1, 7-2-1) who scored just over a minute into the contest, as Olivia Gilida found the back of the net at 1:19 off assists from Carolyn Burton and Julia Franklin to put the Golden Wolves up 1-0. King's (2-20-2, 0-17-2, 0-7-2) responded with their first shot of the contest, as sophomore Sam Kulman's effort was turned aside. Midway through the period, Alvernia doubled their lead, as Kathryn Palmer scored at 10:41 to put the Golden Wolves up 2-0 after the first period.
 
Alvernia struck early in the second period, as Abby Reisinger scored at 1:58 to put the Golden Wolves 3-0. The Golden Wolves tallied once more in the period, as Lexi Hooper found the net at 14:58 to give Alvernia a 4-0 lead heading into the third period. King's pushed looking to get on the board but were unable to breakthrough, as Alvernia added one more goal from Amber Steinhilpert at 10:07 to give the Golden Wolves the 5-0 win.
 
Dahl set the save record just shy of the four minute mark in the first period, finishing the contest with 27 saves on 32 shots. The Monarchs were led on offense by first-year Olivia McTavish who registered four shots on goal. King's won 20 of 46 face-offs, led by sophomore Jordan Dittmar, who won eight of 14, while the Monarchs went 2-2 on the penalty kill and 0-1 on the power play.
 
Julia Beaven got the start in goal, stopping all 11 shots faced in the contest. Offensively, Alvernia were led by Reisinger and Franklin who both recorded two points on a goal and an assist and two assists respectively. The Golden Wolves went 1-1 on the penalty kill and 0-2 on the power play, while winning 26 of 46 draws.
 
The Monarchs will return home for the final game of the regular season and senior day for the backend of the home-and-home series with Alvernia at 6 p.m. at the Revolution Ice Centre.
