WILKES-BARRE, PA (February 18, 2023) --- The King's College men's ice hockey team's season ended as the Monarchs fell to visiting Manhattanville 5-2 on Saturday the Revolution Ice Centre With the loss, King's finishes to 6-17-2 overall and 5-14-1 in United Collegiate Hockey Conference play, while Manhattanville improves to 13-10-2 overall and 12-7-1 in UCHC play.

King's (6-17-2, 5-14-1) started quickly as sophomore
Casey Gerstein scored just under two minutes into the contest off an assist from sophomore
Jackson Grozelle at 1:48 to put the Monarchs up 1-0. Manhattanville (13-10-2, 12-7-1) responded just over ten minutes later, scoring twice in 38 seconds to take a 2-1 lead. Ben Steele tied the game at 13:01, before Dan Barry found the back of the net at 13:39 to put the Valiants up 2-1. Late in the period, it was another two goals in quick succession for Manhattanville, as Glynn Robitaille scored at 17:41, before Artem Mateichenko tallied at 18:10, to give the Valiants a 4-1 advantage after the first period.

King's got some life early in the second period, as Gerstein picked up his second goal of the game, this time on the power play. At 2:35 Gerstein found the back of the net off assists from fellow sophomores
Tyler Blanchard and
Kent Lee, to cut the deficit to 4-2. The Monarchs pushed to cut into the lead but were unable to solve the Valiants, as King's trailed 4-2 heading to the third period. Again, King's continued to pressure, looking to inch closer to Manhattanville, but could not breakthrough, before Mitchell Watson's tally at 18:11 to put the Valiants up 5-2.

Senior goaltender
Tyler Sayger got the start in net, stopping 42 of 47 shots in the contest, finishing the season leading the UCHC with a .929 save percentage. Gerstein paced the offense, totaling two goals, finishing the season with his fourth multi-goal game. The Monarchs won 32 of 71 face-offs, led by senior
Rob Sheehan, who won nine of 20 draws. King's went 1-4 on the power play and 4-4 on the penalty kill.

Sebastian Woods started in goal, stopping 30 of 32 shots. Watson led the Valiants attack, tallying three points on one goal and two assists. Manhattanville went 0-4 on the power play and 3-4 on the penalty kill winning 39 of 71 face-offs.

King's finishes the season with at 6-17-2 overall, the best season in program history.
