ASTON, PA (February 22, 2023) --- The Kings's College men's lacrosse team hit the road for the season opener, falling to hosts Neumann University 13-3 on Wednesday afternoon. With the loss, King's falls to 0-1 on the season, while Neumann improves to 1-2.

Neumann (1-2) won the opening face-off, but King's (0-1) forced an early turnover as sophomore
Jack Wall picked up the ground ball. The Monarchs were unable to do anything with the early turnover, however, as the Knights struck first just over two minutes into the game as Kyle Daly scored at 12:45. Neumann doubled their lead just under two minutes later as Renzo Gareone found the back of the net to put the Knights up 2-0 at 10:48. The Monarchs got on the board just past the midway point of the opening quarter, as Wall scored off an assist from first-year
Ryan Lynch to cut the deficit in half. Late in the frame, Neumann added to their lead on Garone's second goal of the game to take a 3-1 lead after the first quarter.

Once again, Neumann scored early, as Brendan Boschi beat senior goaltender
Matt Wall at 13:14, to put the Knights up 4-1. King's replied quickly, as Lynch tallied his first collegiate goal at 11:56 to cut the lead to 4-2. Neumann added two more goals in the quarter to take a 6-2 advantage into the half. The Knights scored four and a half minutes into the third quarter to push the lead to five, before sophomore
EJ Schreiner notched his first career goal with 5:04 to play, cutting the lead to 7-3, heading to the fourth quarter.

The Knights struck quickly to start the fourth, as Boschi completed his hat trick just 21 seconds into the frame, before Garone picked up his third goal, just under a minute later, to put Neumann up 9-3 with 13:44 to play. Neumann added four more goals in the frame, coming away with the 13-3 win.

Matt Wall got the start in the cage, finishing with 21 saves. Offensively, the Monarchs were led by Lynch, who tallied two points on a goal and an assist, while Schreiner and
Jack Wall both added a goal. King's won seven of 18 face-offs, led by juniors
Geno Casciello, who won four of 13, and
Redmond Cahill, who won three of five. The Monarchs caused six turnovers, led by first-year
Logan Byers who forced two, while King's went 3-7 while a man down, and 0-4 while a man up.

Jake Marchiafava got the start in goal, stopping three of six shots. Boschi paced the Neumann attack, tallying seven points on five goals and two assists, while the Knights won 11 of 18 face-offs. Neumann went 4-7 on man up opportunities and 4-4 while a man down, causing 13 turnovers.

King's will travel to Selinsgrove, PA to take on Susquehanna University in the second game of the season-opening two game road trip, on Saturday at 12 p.m.
