OSWEGO, NY (February 4, 2023) – The King's College wrestling team snapped a seven-meet losing streak to Oswego State on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the hosts, 25-13. With the win, the Monarchs improve to 4-4 in dual meets, while the Lakers drop to 4-8 in their 2022-23 season.
Gus Petruske IV started the meet strong for King's (4-4) at 125 as he earned a quick technical fall win over John Vicario in 4:45.
Cole Anderson followed up this bout at 133 with a 6-0 decision victory over Michael Santore, before
Nick Germano helped push the Monarchs' lead to 11-0 with his own 4-3 decision win at 141 over Kaleb Carreon.
Oswego (4-8) got on the board at 149 as Tyler Rossini defeated
Shane Kibler by an 8-3 decision. Then at 157,
Bret Murphy fell by a 7-5 decision to Logan McGloine as the King's lead dwindled to 11-6, but
Francis Theroux put the Monarchs back in the scoring column at 165 with a technical fall win in 3:49 over Steven Felice.
Another Lakers win at 174 saw Charlie Grygas defeat
Kade Kravits by a 15-4 major decision, but
Connor Wrobleski continued his winning streak with a win by fall in 2:23 in the 184 bout over Bryce Smith as King's maintained their 22-10 lead over Oswego.
Richard Fronheiser picked up the final win of the meet in regulation for King's at 197 with a 4-3 decision victory over Anthony Cascen before Oswego's Anthony Vasquez earned a win by tiebreaker over
Jacob Feese at 285. It was too little too late as the Monarchs secured the 25-13 win over Oswego State on Saturday afternoon on the road.
In the exhibition bouts, both
Cameron Leslie (149) and
Bill Grace (285) earned wins by decision as Leslie's came in a 7-2 victory while Grace posted a 4-0 win. In the 125-exhibition match,
Patrick Horvath was downed due to an injury sustained in the opening period.
The Monarchs will be back on the road on Thursday night as they travel to Hackettstown, NJ to take on Centenary University at 7:00 p.m.
