Pacers Roll Past King's Baseball

SCRANTON, PA (March 21, 2023) -- In non-conference action, the King's College baseball team dropped a 10-2 decision at Marywood University on Tuesday afternoon in Scranton, PA. With the loss, the Monarchs drop to 6-9 overall, while the Pacers improve to 7-5.

King's (6-9) started the contest strong, tallying two runs on three hits in the opening inning. Zach Day got the rally going with a two-out single to right field before Chase Yochem singled through the left side to put two on with two outs. Quin Acchione doubled to right field to plate Day, and a Pacers' fielding error allowed Yochem to score safely to push the Monarch lead to 2-0.

Marywood (7-5) would have an immediate response, plating two in the bottom of the inning and adding another in the second to claim the 3-2 lead early. After a quick third, the Pacers offense exploded for four runs in the fourth and three in the seventh.

The Marywood defense was able to hold off any comeback efforts from a King's offense that put two runners on in the eighth and three in the ninth as the Monarchs fell, 10-2, on Tuesday afternoon at Pacers Field.

Acchione had a strong outing as he went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, while Day posted a 2-for-5 effort with a run. Four other Monarchs put up a hit in the loss as well. Day was also awarded the loss as the starter, giving up five earned runs on seven hits while striking out three in 3.0 innings. Will Hronich threw well in relief, allowing just one earned run with three strikeouts in his 4.0 innings of action, while Devin Maciejewski held Marywood scoreless and without a hit in 1.0 innings.

Christian Michak led Marywood as he went 3-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, while Max Slusser drove in three with a double and a run. AJ Jordan earned the win in 2.0 innings of relief, giving up just two hits in his scoreless outing.

The Monarchs will wrap up their three-game stretch as they host Penn State Wilkes-Barre at Lipo Field at 4 p.m. tomorrow afternoon.
