WILKES-BARRE, PA (March 29, 2023) -- The King's College women's tennis team dominated Clarks Summit University on Wednesday afternoon, picking up their first team win of the 2023 spring season with a 9-0 win over the Defenders. With the win at Kirby Park, the Monarchs improve to 1-5, while the Defenders fall to 0-3.
King's (1-5) started the match strong as
Ashley Kenia and
Hailey D'Amato battled out an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles over the Defenders pair. The other doubles action saw
Jackie Costello and
Braelan Drollas handle Clarks Summit (0-3) at No. 2 doubles, 8-2, before the Monarchs' No. 3 pair of
Payton Lloyd and
Emma Rooney downed the Defenders, 8-3.
In singles play, Kenia defeated Naomi Sadowitz, 6-0 and 6-1, at No. 1 singles before D'Amato defeated Hdidi Floyd by sets of 6-0 and 6-2 in No. 2 singles action. The No. 3 singles match saw Costello hand Alison Aten a pair of 6-1 losses.
The No. 4 singles match saw Drollas defeat Ksenya Larsen, 7-6, with the tiebreaker in the opening set before falling, 6-3, in the second. Drollas battled through the final set before taking the victory, 10-6, over the Defender. Lloyd dominated No. 5 singles with a pair of 6-2 wins over Melanie Stabler, while Rooney rounded out the sweep for King's with wins of 6-0 and 6-1 in No. 6 singles play over Natasha Karp.
The Monarchs will have a quick turn around as they are set to host Cairn University tomorrow afternoon at 3:00 p.m. at Kirby Park.
