ABERDEEN, MD (March 6, 2023) -- To conclude the three-day weekend trip, the King's College baseball team dropped just their second game of the 2023 season, 14-4, to Rosemont College at The Ripken Experience in Aberdeen, Md. With the loss, the Monarchs drop to 5-2 overall, while the Ravens improve to 2-4.
Â
Rosemont (2-4) started the game scoring two runs on some untimely miscues from the Monarchs to take an early 2-0 lead. King's (5-2) responded in the bottom of the inning and
Nick Ciszak and
Chase Yochem homered in consecutive at bats. Back-to-back singles from
Zach Day and
Brandon Loner and a walk from
Justin Richards loaded the bases to set up an RBI from
Michael Marmolejos. An RBI walk from
Brennen Schneider plated the final run as King's took the 4-2 lead after the first inning.
Â
After a quiet second, the Ravens would put more run across in the third off two hits and another in the fourth off one hit to tie the game at 4-4. The King's offense would slow as Rosemont took the lead in the top of the sixth as they plated four on three hits to go ahead, 8-4. The Ravens then posted their final big inning as they saw four more runs cross on three hits in the seventh as their lead swelled to 12-4.
Â
Another two-run inning from Rosemont saw the Ravens set to post the final, but the Monarchs made a final push as Ciszak recorded a one-out single before Yochem walked. Despite putting two on, King's could not drive them in as they dropped the 14-4 decision.
Â
Nick Ciszak and
Chase Yochem both recorded two hits, including a home run each, with an RBI and a run to lead the King's offense.
Jeff Higgins was awarded the loss in relief, throwing 1.0 innings and giving up four earned runs on three hits. Yochem had a strong start on the mound, going 3.0 innings and allowing just one earned run on three hits with six strikeouts, while
Devin Maciejewski threw a scoreless final inning for King's.
Â
Rosemont saw both Ethan Wood and Colin McCormick record three hits, while Wood scored three and drove in two. Brett Angelillo earned the win in 3.0 innings of relief, giving up no hits and no runs.
Â
The Monarchs will return north next week as they open their Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) schedule against Misericordia on Sunday, March 12 and Monday, March 13.
