Women's Tennis Drops Openers to Trine, Northwestern (MN)

ORLANDO, FL (March 6, 2023) -- The King's College women's tennis team saw their first action of their 2023 spring season as they fell, 9-0, to Trine University in their morning match before dropping a 9-0 final to University of Northwestern (MN) in the night cap in Orlando, FL's USTA National Campus.
 
vs. Trine – L, 0-9:
To start their 2023 spring season, the women's tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to the Thunder. No. 1 doubles play saw Ashley Kenia and Hailey D'Amato fall by a score of 8-2, while Braelan Drollas and Payton Lloyd teamed up in No. 2 doubles and fell, 8-2. The final doubles competition saw the Thunder pick up the win by default.
 
Singles play saw Ashely Kenia win the opening set, 6-3, but a tough opponent in Eva Morales swept the final two sets, 6-1 and 10-7, at No. 1 singles. The No. 2 singles match up featured Hailey D'Amato as she dropped sets of 6-3 and 6-2 to Elina Locane. Braelan Drollas was swept in the No. 3 match to Emille Bassett by matching scores of 6-0.
 
In No. 4 singles, Payton Lloyd made her collegiate debut while falling by scores of 6-0 to Alexis Maloney. The No. 5 singles match saw Emma Rooney downed by Bailey Pelliccia, 6-0 and 6-1, while the No. 6 singles match was awarded to the Thunder by default.
 
vs. Northwestern (MN) – L, 0-9:
It was a similar story in the night cap as the Monarchs battled valiantly before falling 9-0 to the University of Northwestern (MN). The No. 1 doubles match saw Kenia and D'Amato fight out a gritty 8-6 loss to the Eagles pair, while Drollas and Lloyd were downed by an 8-1 decision at No. 2 doubles.
 
In singles action, Kenia dropped her opening set, 6-0, but battled back to take set two, 6-3. In the deciding third set, Kenia would see her match ended by a score of 10-7 in No. 1 singles play to Annie Davis. D'Amato was downed by sets of 6-0 and 6-1 to Abby Johnson at No. 2 singles before Drollas was defeated, 6-2 and 6-0, to Ana Marquadt in the No. 3 pairing.
 
No. 4 singles saw Lloyd drop 6-0 and 6-3 sets to Elli Dodge, and Emma Rooney rounded out the match for the Monarchs at No. 5 singles by matching scores of 6-0 to Rayua Baurgam.
