Schreiner Leads Men's Lacrosse in Highest Scoring Game in Two Years

DALLAS, PA (APRIL 1, 2023) --- The Kings's College men's lacrosse team eclipsed double-digit goals for the first time since March 27, 2021, but fell to host Misericordia University 29-11 on Saturday in Dallas, PA. With the loss, King's falls to 0-9 overall and 0-2 in conference play, while Misericordia improves to 5-5 overall and 1-0 in MAC play. 
 
Misericordia (5-5, 1-0) started quickly, scoring the first four goals of the contest, taking a 4-0 lead at 9:19. King's (0-9, 0-2) responded just over 30 seconds later as sophomore Ben Spencer got the Monarchs on the board at 8:43. The teams traded two goals apiece over the final eight and a half minutes, as first-year Ryan Lynch recorded both goals for King's during the stretch, as the Cougars led 6-3 after the first quarter. Misericordia opened the second quarter with the first two goals, before sophomore EJ Schreiner scored the first of three second quarter goals at 12:23. The Cougars again scored two straight goals, but Schreiner answered at 6:44, making it a 10-5 game. Misericordia went on a 4-0 run, before Schreiner completed his hat trick at 3:27. Two more goals by the Cougars were followed up by two from the Monarchs late in the frame, as Lynch and Spencer both tallied a goal, as King's trailed 16-8 heading to the half. 
 
Misericordia opened the second half on an 8-0, that spanned the entirety of the third quarter, as the Cougars took a 24-8 lead into the fourth quarter. Schreiner converted on a man-up opportunity for King's early at 14:49 off an assist from junior Ryan Barnes. Misericordia tallied the next two goals, before Schreiner notched his fifth goal of the game at 11:17, making it a 26-10 game. The Cougars scored again, but this time sophomore Jake Cierech responded at 7:08, before Misericordia recorded the final two goals to come away with the 29-11 win. 
 
Senior Matt Wall got the start in the cage and finished with 12 saves in the first half, while senior Joe Plachcinski recorded five saves during the second half. Schreiner led the Monarchs attack registering five points on five goals, while Lynch and Spencer both added three points on three goals and two goals and an assist respectively. King's held the advantage on face-offs, winning 24-43 draws, led by junior Redmond Cahill who won 18 of 32. The Monarchs forced five Cougar turnovers on the afternoon, while King's went 1-2 on man-up opportunities. 
 
Four goalkeepers received action for Misericordia as Sean Wallace picked up the win and made four saves. Ryan Vandenberg paced the Cougar attack, registering 12 points on 10 goals and two assists. Misericordia won 19 of 43 face-offs, while forcing the Monarchs into 18 turnovers. 
 
King's returns home to host FDU-Florham on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in a MAC Freedom contest at McCarthy Stadium.
