Monarch Men Streak Snapped at Three with Loss to DeSales

WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 13, 2023) -- In their second match in as many days, the King's College men's tennis team fell, 9-0, to DeSales University in the Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) match on Thursday afternoon at Kirby Park. With the loss, the Monarchs fall to 7-7 overall and 2-3 in the MAC Freedom, while the Bulldogs improve to 6-2 and 2-1 in the conference.
 
Logan Gregory and John Toussaint fell by an 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles to the Bulldogs, while Patrick Pech and Aidan Temple were downed in a close match, 8-5, in the No. 2 doubles match. The No. 3 doubles contest saw Nick Harth and Brendan Turowski drop an 8-3 final to the DeSales pair.
 
Singles play saw Gregory fall in the opening set, 6-0, before battling back to take the second, 6-1. The No. 1 singles bout was decided in the third as Gregory fell, 10-3, to Augie Citrone. No. 2 singles action featured Toussaint dropping sets of 6-1 and 6-2 to Philip Ritchie, while Pech was downed by sets of 6-4 and 6-2 to Aidan Kierran in No. 3 singles play.
 
In No. 4 singles action, Harth dropped sets of 6-1 and 6-3 to Mark Sherrill, before Temple fell by a pair of 6-1 sets to Will Pollick in the No. 5 singles contest. The Bulldogs finished the sweep in the No. 6 singles match as Turowski was defeated, 6-3 in set one before earning a 6-1 win in the second. DeSales' Zachary Marshall won the deciding set, 10-7, to earn the victory over Turowski.
 
The Monarchs will look to bounce back on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Arcadia University for the MAC Freedom match up with the Knights. The conference bout is set for a 1:00 p.m. start.
