Barnes Nets Two in Loss to #20 Stevens

HOBOKEN, NJ (April 15, 2023) -- Ryan Barnes recorded two points on two goals to lead the King's College men's lacrosse team as they fell, 25-4, at #20 Stevens Institute of Technology on the road in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Monarchs fall to 0-11 overall and 0-4 in the conference standings, while the Ducks improve to 12-2 with an unbeaten 5-0 MAC Freedom mark.
 
Stevens (12-2, 5-0 MAC Freedom) put up the first six goals of the game before Ryan Lynch fed Jake Cierech to get the Monarchs on the board with 2:03 left in the first period. The hosts would tally nine unanswered goals before King's (0-11, 0-4 MAC Freedom) struck again, this time with an unassisted goal from Ryan Barnes with 4:03 to go in the half. The Ducks tallied two more to take a 17-2 lead into the break.
 
The scoring slowed in the second, but the Ducks would build their lead to as much as 24-2 before King's strung together back-to-back goals in the fourth, the first with 10:25 to play on an unassisted Ben Spencer goal then again with Barnes' second tally on an assist from Nate Hullinger with 6:59 left on the clock. Stevens posted one more score in the final ticks as the Ducks defeated the Monarchs, 25-4, on the road in the MAC Freedom contest.
 
Barnes led the Monarchs with two points on two goals off three shots, while Spencer recorded a point and a team-high six shots in the game. Both Redmond Cahill and Geno Casciello won four face offs in the contest, while Matt Wall collected a team-leading five ground balls to go with 14 saves in the loss.
 
Stevens was paced by Joseph Grippo with eight points on a hat trick and five assists off eight shots. Additionally, Conner Park totaled 10 ground balls and 10 face off wins, and Ryan Leahy earned the win as he posted two saves in the first 8:02 of the contest and held the Monarchs scoreless.
 
King's totaled 23 shots in the game, including 12 on target, while successfully recording 12 clears. The defense collected 18 saves and forced 16 Ducks turnovers while picking up 24 ground balls.
 
The Monarchs will return to Wilkes-Barre, Pa. for their MAC Freedom match up at McCarthy Stadium against Lycoming College. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
