Gilroy, Faux Earn All-MAC Freedom Honors to Lead Men's Golf to Third-Place Finish

DALLAS, PA (April 23, 2023) -- Battling difficult weather conditions through the first round, the King's College men's golf team battled to finish their opening round this morning before posting the third-best round of the day to place third overall out of the nine teams at the 2023 Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) Men's Golf Championships.
 
King's completed their first round on Sunday morning, teeing off at 8:00 a.m., as they recorded a round of 343 at Huntsville Golf Club to finish fourth. On the par-72 course, JP Gilroy carded a team-low round of 76 (+4) to lead King's, while Tyler Faux and Michael Conflitti posted matching scores of 86 (+14) for the opening round. Gavin Ruger finished with a score of 95 (+23), while Joe Petrillo rounded out the Monarch golfers with a score of 98 (+26).
 
The Monarchs took round two by storm, carding a round of 327 as a team to post the two-day team score of 670 (+94) to finish third overall. Stevens took the team title with a total score of 607 (+31) after carding a 294 in the second round, while Arcadia placed second with a two-day total of 642 (+66).
 
Gilroy tied for sixth for the championships as he posted a round of 82 (+10) on Sunday to total a two-day score of 158 (+14), while Faux placed 10th, carding a round of 74 (+2) in his final championship round and a score of 160 (+16) for the tournament. The pair earned All-MAC Freedom Second Team honors with their top-10 finishes. Gilroy and Faux pick up the program's first All-MAC Freedom honors for the first time since the 2017 season.
 
Conflitti placed 20th out of 40 golfers, carding a round of 87 (+15) on the afternoon and the two-day score of 173 (+29). Petrillo improved his first-round score by 14 strokes, posting a round of 84 (+12) to finish the championship weekend with a total score of 182 (+38), while Ruger rounded out the King's golfers with a round of 98 (+25) on Sunday to finish his first championship weekend with a two-day score of 193 (+49).
 
Gus Vickers of Stevens was this year's individual champion with a two-day score of 149 (+5) to earn MAC Freedom Golfer of the Year Honors. Teammate Austin Liao tabbed MAC Freedom Rookie of the Year for his ninth-place finish, while Ducks head coach Charles Papendick was awarded MAC Freedom Coach of the Year.
