WILKES-BARRE, PA (April 5, 2023) -- It was a battle at Kirby Park on Wednesday afternoon as the King's College women's tennis team edged out Marywood University, 5-4. With the win in the non-conference contest, the Monarchs improve to 4-7 overall, while the Pacers drop to 3-11.
 
In doubles play, the No. 1 pair of 
Ashley Kenia and 
Hailey D'Amato defeated the Pacers pair, 8-2. Kenia and D'Amato then picked up wins in singles action, with Kenia earning wins of 6-0 and 6-4 at No. 1 singles over Allison Bashore, while D'Amato edging out Faith Kendircks, 6-4 and 7-6 (7-3), in the No. 2 singles match. 
Jackie Costello earned set victories of 6-1 and 6- 2 in the No. 3 singles contest against McKenna Seavey, while 
Emma Rooney rounded out the wins for the Monarchs in the No. 6 singles match, 6-3 and 6-0, over Cat English.
 
The No. 2 doubles pair of Costello and 
Braelan Drollas were handed an 8-4 loss to the Pacers, while 
Payton Lloyd and 
Emma Rooney were downed, 8-2, to Marywood. The No. 4 singles match saw Drollas fall by a pair of 6- 1 sets to Gianna Snell, before Lloyd dropped sets of 6-4 and 6-3 to Gabby Nunez in the No. 5 singles contest.
 
The Monarchs will be off for the holiday break before returning to action on Wednesday, April 12. King's is set to take on cross-town rival Wilkes University at 3:00 p.m. in Edwardsville, Pa.
