ANNVILLE, PA (May 15, 2023) -- As the postseason accolades continue to roll for our spring student-athletes, it was on Monday morning that three from the King's College baseball team were recognized on All-Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) teams. Junior outfielder
Chase Yochem collects his second consecutive nod on the All-MAC Freedom Second Team, while junior second baseman
Nick Ciszak and sophomore pitcher
Matt Martin were named All-MAC Freedom Honorable Mention.
Â
The 2023 season marks the seventh consecutive active season that a Monarch baseball player appeared on an All-MAC Freedom team.
Â
Yochem continued his strong career as one of the top bats in the conference to earn his second All-MAC Freedom Second Team accolades in his career. He appeared among the top five in the conference as he ranked second in hits (59), third in batting average (.417), fourth in slugging percentage (.629) and OPS (1.105), and fifth in doubles (13) and home runs (6). Yochem also placed in the top 10 in on-base percentage (.476), runs scored (40), RBIs (35), and at bats (143). The junior surpassed the 100-hit milestone in his career in the win over Penn State Hazleton on April 23, and he picked up MAC Freedom Player of the Week for his 4-for-5 effort with seven RBIs, three runs, two home runs, and a double in the season opening win over Clarks Summit. Additionally, there were just six games where Yochem went without a hit and 20 games that saw the outfielder put up a multi-hit effort.
Â
Ciszak was a welcomed addition to the Monarchs this season as a junior infielder and earned a permanent spot in the starting lineup at second base. He collects All-MAC Freedom Honorable Mention recognition as he ranked third in runs scored (44) and appeared in the top 20 among conference foes in slugging percentage (.522), on-base percentage (.443), OPS (.965), hits (43), RBIs (30), doubles (11), triples (2), home runs (4), at bats (134), and walks (27). Additionally, he totaled 12 multi-hit games and put up a hitting streak that extended through 12 games from March 28 to April 19.
Â
Martin picks up his first post-season recognition after a strong sophomore campaign as one of the top starting pitchers in the King's rotation. He led the Monarchs and ranked in the top 10 in the MAC Freedom in both ERA (4.28), strikeouts (42), and innings pitcher (54.2), while holding his opponents to a .295 batting average which saw him stand at 15
th in the MAC Freedom. One of his strongest outings this season came as he fanned seven in 6.0 innings of work while giving up just one earned run on five hits in the win over DeSales.
Arcadia's Alex Madera earned his second consecutive Player of the Year honor, while Wilkes' Aiden Murphy was named Pitcher of the Year. Carson Allison of DeSales was tabbed Rookie of the Year, while Lycoming's Rick Oliveri picked up Coach of the Year honors. The complete 2023 All-MAC Freedom Baseball Team can be found below:
