DOYLESTOWN, PA (May 2, 2023) -- In their Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) finale, the King's College baseball team fell, 6-2, at Delaware Valley University on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Monarchs drop to 16-21 and 6-17 in the MAC Freedom, while the Aggies improve to 15-22 with a 9-14 conference mark.
The Monarchs got a quick start as they plated a run in the top of the second thanks to a leadoff walk from
Quin Acchione and a two-out single from
Gregory Ahlstrom as King's (16-21, 6-17 MAC Freedom) after the top of the second. Delaware Valley (15-22, 9-14 MAC Freedom) responded with a run in the bottom of the second and a pair of scores in the third to go ahead, 3-1, heading into the fourth inning of play.
Both bats slowed over the next two innings before the Aggies drove in another run in the bottom of the sixth and two tallies in the bottom of the seventh to see their lead swell to 6-1.
King's strung together a strong frame in the top of the eighth, getting one run back thanks to back-to-back singles from
Jacob Sutton and
Nick Ciszak and a passed ball by the Delaware Valley catcher to see the Monarchs close within 6-2, but the Aggies made quick work of King's in the nine allowing just one runner to reach safely as the Monarchs fell, 6-2, in the MAC Freedom contest in Doylestown, Pa.
Acchione led King's as he went 2-for-3 with a run, while Ahlstrom put up a hit and drove in one. Additionally, Sutton recorded a hit with a run in the loss for King's.
Matt Masala was awarded the loss as the starter, allowing two earned runs off six hits with two strikeouts across 4.0 innings of work.
Matt Martin pitched well in the final inning of relief, holding the Aggies scoreless off a pair of hits.
Four different Delaware Valley batters recorded two hits in the win, led by Kenny Tunison who went 2-for-2 with two RBIs, while Bobby Bright went 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Dakota George earned the win in 1.0 innings of work, giving up no hits and no runs.
