SCRANTON, PA (SEPTEMBER 12, 2023) -- The King's College (4-1) women's volleyball team defeated the Pacers of Marywood (3-5) 3-1 on Thursday evening. This marks the first road win of the season for the Monarchs.

The first set in the Insalaco Arena, King's came out strong against the Pacers and took the lead early with a 5-1 push and making the score 7-4. Marywood would keep annoying the Monarchs, but the closest they were able to get to King's were by two within the set. At the end of the first set the Monarchs were able to make a 9-4 run that involved multiple kills by
Theresa Lynch (So.),
Madisyn Heiser-Elsea (Fy.),
Emma King (Fy.),
Joy Kindall (So.), and
Lindsay Arezina (Fy.). King's took the set 25-18.

The second set was an interesting one as the score tied nine separate times. The Monarchs took an early lead of 7-2, that included two aces by
Keely Hoban (Jr.) and kills by Kindall, Lynch, and
Emily Scott (Sr.). Â Yet, the Pacers began to pester them, and it soon became a point-for-point game. After the set was tied 17-17, King's took an 8-3 leap and with Arezina's final kill, Monarchs took the set 25-20.

King's led much of the third set, before Marywood made an 8-3 run. This made the score 17-16 and it was a battle from then on out. The Monarchs made one last fight to take the lead with two kills by Lynch and Kindall. The Pacers eventually took the set 25-23.

In the fourth and final set of the evening, King's came back with vengeance and had an 18-7 start. The streak was team heavy, but Scott fueled her team with five kills in this span. Marywood made a small 7-2 burst, but the Monarchs were ready to shut them down. A kill by Arezina and an ace by Kindall helped King's to take the fourth set 25-15.

King's ended the victorious night with 50 kills, 45 assists, 11 aces, 67 digs, and a hitting percentage of .250. Three Monarchs had a team high of 10 kills, which were Scott, Kindall, and King. Hoban sparked the team with 28 assists.
Morgan Williams (So.) paced the team with 20 digs and
Adriana Conforti (Jr.) followed with 10.

Marywood had four Pacers with nine kills that included Casey Hagerstrom, Mikayla Meek, Libby Smith, and Haley Hallman. Gianna Norton pushed the defensive end with 27 digs. Jaedyn Laws tied a team high of 18 assists with Meek.

The Monarchs will be back in McGrane Gymnasium to take on Penn State- Wilkes-Barre on Thursday, September 14
th at 6 p.m. and will begin Homecoming weekend with a match against Clark Summit at 6 p.m. on Friday, September 15
th.
