WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 16, 2023) -- The King's College Monarchs fell 2-0 to the Juniata College Eagles Saturday night.
King's (1-3) and Juniata (3-1-1) were deadlocked through the first half of play on the Homecoming Day nightcap. King's out shot the Eagles four to one in the first half placing all four of their shots on target, but were denied by Juniata goalkeeper Axel Grater on all four attempts. At the half both neither team had notched a goal.Â
Juniata would break the silence in the second half as Emmit Young scored on a free kick just outside the 18-yard box putting the Eagles up by one in the 51
st minute. The Eagles would
record their second and final goal in the 69
th minute off a penalty kick scored by Ian Edwards. The Monarchs would play the possession game in the final 20 minutes constantly pressuring the Eagles goal but were not able to find the back of the net before time expired.
The Monarch offense was led by
Liam Yair and
Shane Serio who both took two shots, and placed both on target.
Dylan Domchek and
Buck Diacont both placed one shot on target.
Philip Permyashkin took three shots for the Monarchs, while
Lukas Connolly took one.
Eric Siciliano recorded four fantastic saves in goal for the Monarchs across both halves of the match.
The Eagles were led by Young who scored one goal on five shots, two of which were on target. Edwards would score on his only shot of the night for Juniata. The Eagles goalkeeper, Grater, recorded six saves on the night.
The Monarchs will return to play Wednesday, September 20 at Ursinus College with kick-off set for 7 pm.
