COLLEGEVILLE, PA (September 20, 2023) -- King's College men's soccer falls on the road to Ursinus College 1-0.
The Monarchs (1-4) and the Bears (4-1) both placed shots on goal early in the game. King's midfielderÂ
Liam Yair put a shot on target in the 13
th minute but was just barely saved by Ursinus goalkeeper Zach Matik. One minute later
Nate Horn had his opportunity to put the Monarchs ahead early. However, his shot went just over the goal.
Ursinus struck in the 16
th minute as a Colin Deal shot was saved byÂ
Eric Siciliano, and deflected back into play. The ball found Declan Curran who took a shot and found the back of the goal for the Bears . Siciliano tallied five saves in the first half to keep the score at 1-0 going into the second half.
King's and Ursinus traded shots the entire second half, with neither team able to find the back of the net. In the 89
th minute the Monarchs almost tied the game when
Buck Diacont took a shot and missed just right of Ursinus's goal, nearly tying the game at one all. At the end of the night the Bears found themselves with a 1-0 victory over the Monarchs.
Yair and
Trevor Jones both notched shots on target for the Monarchs. Siciliano recorded six saves in goal for King's.
Deal and and Tommy Mollis both recorded two shots on goal for Ursinus. Matik had two saves in goal for the Bears.Â
The Monarchs will return to McCarthy Stadium Saturday, September 23 at 12 p.m. to take on the Giants of Keystone College. The Monarchs will also be celebrating Senior Day on Saturday.
