WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 23, 2023) -- Michael Davies scored the game winner on senior day to help the Monarchs take down Keystone College 2-1.
King's College (2-4) handed the Giants (0-6-1) their sixth loss of the season to garner their second win of the year. The Monarchs went ahead in the 29
th minute when a free kick by
Liam Yair found the back of the goal after ricocheting off a Keystone defender pass the goalkeeper. Davies found his moment to shine soon after as the senior scored from well outside the 18-yard box, placing the ball perfectly into the top right corner of the net.
The Monarchs entered the second half with a 2-0 lead and continued to pressure the Keystone net.
Kyle Carroll,
Bryce Nunes, and
Evan Egnatovich all had their hand at a goal, but to no avail. The Giants scored first in the second half when Francois Elize put the ball into the net from inside the 18-yard box to bring the Giants within one of King's.
The final 18 minutes of play saw both teams push themselves to the limits, fighting for every loose ball, and attempting to take a shot when possible. The Monarchs held up strong defensively for the final minutes, preventing Keystone from scoring and found themselves with a 2-1 win.
Davies recorded his goal with two shot attempts during the game. Egnotovich placed three shots on goal, while Yair and
Dylan Domchek both had one shot on frame.
Eric Siciliano picked up six saves in net for the Monarchs.Â
Keystone was paced by Elize who scored and recorded four of the Giants seven shots that landed on frame. Hector Camaja, Jr. made six saves in goal for Keystone.
The Monarchs will return to play Wednesday, September 27, as they will travel to Williamsport to take on Penn College. King's will return to McCarthy Stadium Saturday, September 30, to host Arcadia University in their first conference game of the year.
