CENTER VALLEY, PA (SEPTEMBER 20, 2023) -- The King's College (6-2) women's volleyball team made a strong effort in their loss against the Bulldogs of DeSales (3-6) in their first Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) Freedom matchup on Wednesday night.
It was an interesting first set as the game tied 12 different times. Throughout the match, the Monarchs constantly pestered the Bulldogs and continued to not allow their opponents to maintain any momentum. King's produced three consecutive points that included kills by
Lindsay Arezina (Fy.) and
Emily Scott (Sr.), and an ace by
Viannce Sinocruz (Fy.). This push from the Monarchs helped them take the lead by one, the score was 13-12. From then on both teams battled and tried to break free from one another. DeSales eventually took the first set 25-19.Â
In the second set, the Bulldogs were persistent right from the start.
Emma King (Fy.) subbed in for the Monarchs and sparked the offense with three kills. Yet, the Bulldogs had every answer and were not letting up.
Joy Kindall (So.) made the last kill for the squad before DeSales took the second set 25-12.Â
It was a battle to start the third and final set of the evening. King's were not making it easy for the Bulldogs to gain any sort of cushion and kept the lead alive for most of the set. The score was 9-9 when the Monarchs made a 5-2 jolt that comprised of kills by King, Kindall, and
Theresa Lynch (So.). DeSales made their own 3-1 burst to even the set 15-15. The Bulldogs took the set 25-19 to end the night.Â
King's ended with 28 kills, 27 assists, 48 digs, and a hitting percentage of 0.100. Kindall had a team high of 10 kills.
Keely Hoban (Jr.) led the team in assists with 11 and Sinocruz followed with her own 10.
Morgan Williams (So.) fueled the defensive end with 18 digs.Â
Desales' Samantha Worontzoff finished with 13 kills and Paige Lewis was right behind with 10. Grace Grandinetti aided the team with 23 assists. Emma Notarfrancesco had four aces and 21 digs.Â
The Monarchs are back home in McGrane Gymnasium for a tri-match to face off Keystone at 11 a.m. and will take on Mount Saint Mary at 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 23
rd. The next MAC Freedom contest will be Tuesday, September 26
th at 7 p.m. to battle against Lebanon Valley.Â
