Three Monarchs Score in a Comeback Over Penn College

WILLIAMSPORT, PA (September 27, 2023) -- After trailing 2-1 going into the half, King's College men's soccer staged a second half comeback to takedown Penn College 3-2.

King's College (3-4) fell behind 1-0 in the first minute of the game when Logan Stapleton scored for Penn College (5-3-1). The Monarchs didn't let the early goal get the best of them, as Buck Diacont retaliated and evened the game at one all in the 19th minute of the match.

Penn had an answer in the 42nd minute when Jimmy Friedman shot and scored for the Wildcats after receiving a pass from Spencer Price. In addition to holding a one goal lead over the Monarchs at the half, the Wildcats also lead the Monarchs in shots 7-3.

Everything changed for the Monarchs in the second half. Shane Serio found the back of the net in the 63rd minute to tie the game at two all and give the Monarchs the momentum they needed to change the outcome of the game. Just three minutes later in the 66th minute Evan Egnatovich put the ball in the back of the net, tallying his first goal of the season, as well as giving the Monarchs their first lead of the game.

King's never looked back after that point, ultimately coming out victorious over the Wildcats and garnering their third win of the season.

The Monarchs made the most of their opportunities, scoring on all three shots that they placed on goal. In addition to Diacont, Serio, and Egnatovich scoring for King's, Philip Permyashkin and Cameron Jones took shot attempts for the Monarchs. Jones also posted an assist. Eric Siciliano picked up his second consecutive win while making three saves over the course of the game.

Penn took 10 shots on the night placing five on net. Stapleton and Friedman scored for the Wildcats, and Price and Austin Stapleton both picked up assists.

The Monarchs will return to McCarthy Stadium Saturday, September 30 at 4 p.m. as they host Arcadia University in their first Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom game of the season.
