Monarchs Force 1-1 Draw Against Knights

WILKES-BARRE, PA (September 30, 2023) -- A goal by Buck Diacont in the 55th minute helped the Monarchs finish in a 1-1 draw against Arcadia University in a physical match at McCarthy Stadium.

King's College (3-4-1, 0-0-1) picked up their first draw of the season against Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) foe, Arcadia University (3-3-3, 0-0-1), Saturday afternoon. The first half of play saw King's pound the Arcadia net with eight shots, but no opportunity was lethal enough to lead to a first half goal for the Monarchs. Both teams played a physical game through the first half, drawing a combined nine fouls between the two squads.

Unlike the first half, the second half of play saw Arcadia break the zero all score when Ashton Davis scored on a ball that had been bouncing around in front of the Monarchs' goal. The Monarchs did not let the Knights' goal deflate them, as Shane Serio four minutes later crossed the ball across the field to Diacont, who scored an unbelievable back heel goal to tie the game at one all.

The Monarchs and Knights both played physically the rest of the second half, putting pressure on every pass and shot attempt. At the end, neither team was able to find the win column ending the game in a 1-1 draw.

Despite finding themselves behind, King's non-stop pressure on the Knights net proved to be beneficial giving the Monarchs the one goal they needed to force a draw. The Monarchs took 15 shots on the night compared to Arcadias' seven shot attempts.

Diacont notched his third goal of the season, and Serio picked up an assist. Diacont also took four shots, followed by Serio, Nate Horn, and Christopher Vollrath, who all took two shots. Eric Siciliano picked up a save in goal as well.

The Knights were led by Davis, who scored the lone goal and attempted two shots. Cole Gordon and Giancarlo Ciololi both had two shots for Arcadia. Logan Gildea made three saves in goal.

Next time out the Monarchs will travel to Ramapo College Wednesday, October 4 for a nonconference match up. The Monarchs will return to MAC Freedom play Saturday, October 7 at Delaware Valley University at 3:30 p.m.
