PITTSTON, PA (Jan. 13, 2024) - - King's College women's ice hockey dropped its second game of a United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) weekend series versus Manhattanville College 5-0 this afternoon after defeating the Valiants 2-1 in a shootout the night prior.
Manhattanville came out aggressive on offense from the puck drop, but the Monarchs held the Valiants off for nearly seven minutes before they scored their first goal of the game. King's continued to battle, and while the team struggled to capitalize on offense, their defense shined in holding Manhattanville to just one goal by the end of the first period.
The Valiants added to two more goals to their lead in the second period, including one goal in power play. Despite this, the Monarchs continued to hold things down on defense. In the second period alone,
Syd Dahl tallied 16 saves in goal.
Manhattanville tallied two more goals in the final period with their fifth and final one being with just 1.2 seconds left in the game. The Valiants ultimately defeated the Monarchs 5-0.
Despite the results, King's still had a strong showing against Manhattanville. Dahl finished the game with 36 saves in goal for the Monarchs.
Brighton Wallin led the team with two blocks.  Seven different Monarchs tallied shots in the loss, including
Lucy Beal who led with six. King's also won 22 face offs during the game.
The Monarchs are on the road next weekend for another UCHC and Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) two-game series against Arcadia University. They take the ice on Friday Jan. 19 at 7:30 pm and Saturday Jan. 20 at 3:30 pm.
