DALLAS, PA (January 20, 2024) – The host Misericordia University out scored the King's College men's basketball team, 59-30, in the first half as the Monarchs fell by a 91-73 decision on the road in Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play on Saturday afternoon. With the setback, the Monarchs drop to 10-7 overall and 2-4 in the conference standings, while the Cougars improve to 11-6 with a 5-1 conference mark.
 
A three from Eamonn Walsh with 16:47 to go in the opening half capped off a back-and-forth effort to start with King's (10-7, 2-4 MAC Freedom) trailing 12-9. A 6-0 spurt by Misericordia (11-6, 5-1 MAC Freedom) opened the scoring as the Cougars cruised to halftime with a 59-30 advantage over the Monarchs.
 
King's battled throughout the second, out scoring the hosts 43-32 on 43.2% shooting. The Monarchs also held Misericordia scoreless over the final 6:53 of action while tacking on 17 points before ultimately dropping the conference test, 91-73.
 
Chris Patton led the Monarchs with 14 points on a 7-for-14 shooting effort, adding four rebounds, two assists, a block, and a steal. Walsh added seven points, while Ben Rodner-Tims collected a team-high six boards to go along with six points, while Ray Gooley had five caroms and five points.
 
Nick Hornung led the Cougars in the win, totaling 23 points and nine rebounds, while Derek Smith added 20 points with four threes.
 
King's shot 39.4% for the game, delivering 12 assists on 28 field goals. Inside the box score, the Monarchs edged out the Cougars in second chance points (13-9), bench points (40-24), and fast break points (5-1).
 
The Monarchs return to McGrane Gymnasium on Wednesday night as they host the Flying Dutchmen of Lebanon Valley College in MAC Freedom play at 7:00 p.m.
