Armitage, Varner Win Events to Lead Women's Track and Field at River Hawk Invitational

SELINSGROVE, PA (January 20, 2024) -- The duo of Madison Armitage and Brandy Varner brought home wins for the Monarchs as they led the King's College women's indoor track and field team at Susquehanna's River Hawk Invitational on Saturday.
 
On the Track
60 Meter Dash

It was a great start to the meet in the 60 meter dash preliminary heats as both Abigail Springer and Juliet Brady qualified for a spot in the finals heat. Springer placed sixth overall in 8.49 seconds, while Brady crossed seventh in 8.60 seconds. Sophia Hahn rounded out the Monarch sprinters in 8.87 seconds.
 
In the finals heat, Springer and Brady maintained their standings from the preliminary heats as Springer took sixth in 8.50 seconds, and Brady finished seventh in 8.56 seconds.
 
200 Meter Dash
Abigail Springer recorded another top finish in the 200 meter dash, placing third overall and second in her heat in 28.09 seconds, while Sophia Hahn recorded a time of 29.99 seconds.
 
400 Meter Dash
King's had another strong showing in the 400 meter dash as Ava Butcher placed fifth overall and first in her heat in 1:05.94. Laura Dainauski and Nicole Zambetti then finished eighth and ninth, respectively, as Dainauski recorded a time of 1:0722 and Zambetti finished in 1:07.60.
 
800 Meter Run
Liz Porto was the only King's competitor in the event, and she crossed in 2:52.33.
 
Mile
The Monarchs had a strong showing in the event as Zoe Tomko finished fourth overall in 5:54.96, while Cecilia Chipriano placed ninth in 6:12.63. Mara Ryan was the final King's runner to finish in 6:50.38.
 
3,000 Meter Run
Julia Johnson and Mikaela Majcher took sixth and seventh, respectively, with Johnson recorded a time of 11:58.00 and Majcher posted a time of 12:02.52.
 
4x400 Meter Relay
King's place third in the event as the team of Laura Dainauski, Nicole Zambetti, Ava Butcher, and Zoe Tomko crossed in 4:35.02.
 
In the Field
High Jump

Madison Armitage won the women's high jump in the meat, clearing a height of 1.52 meters and tying the program record for the second time this indoor season.
 
Long Jump
Madelynn Perfilio was the lone Monarch in the event as she placed eighth with a jump of 4.57 meters on her fourth attempt.
 
Triple Jump
Madelynn Perfilio earned a fifth-place finish in the triple jump with a distance of 9.61 meters on her sixth attempt.
 
Shot Put
Brandy Varner won the shot put in her second consecutive meet, recording the top mark in the event at 11.96 meters on her fifth toss. Delaney Hilferty had a strong event as well, placing third with a throw of 10.99 meters on her fifth attempt, while Caitlin Kirk also finished in the top 10 with a seventh-place finish and new personal best at 10.49 meters on her second throw. Sophia Lukowski posted a 10th-place finish with a mark of 9.67 meters on her third toss, and Roni McClelland (9.36 meters) and Victoria Zultevicz (7.40 meters) rounded out the packed field for the Monarchs.
 
Weight Throw
Anna Bellucci and Rhian Crowley finished third and fourth, respectively, in the event as Bellucci recorded a mark of 12.81 meters on her fourth attempt, while Crowley posted a new personal-best toss of 12.46 meters on her fifth try. Delaney Hilferty also placed 14th with a throw of 9.48 meters on her third toss.

King's will be back in action next weekend as they are set to compete in Bucknell's Bison Open and Multi beginning on Friday, January 26.
